One of the greatest treasures a man can have in his life is to have the Holy fear of God. lets see what the bible says about the fear of God. I define the fear of God as the continual awareness of God’s presence at all times. Thus being conscious of God’s omnipresence at all times, wherever one is. When you have the mind that God is watching you , you are careful of your with words that comes from your mouth, knowing He is listening.
You are careful of your behavior and actions knowing he is watching. You are careful with what you in secret knowing He sees in secret and what is hidden. (Hebrews 4:13) When you know Him this way it will change you for good. From this i conclude that real poverty is not lack of money but lack of the holy fear of God. That is why God sent Jesus to come and preach the good news to the poor.
Sinners are poor because they think they can get away with their sin, they think nobody sees what they do. The worst is when they they think there is no God who supervises what goes on in life. That is real poverty and a poor mindset. Those who lived for themselves and have passed have regretted for not glorifying God with their lives but it’s too late for them. You are careful how you treat people because you know he is the righteous judge of all men. You will be careful how you treat other people’s children in your care.
Lazarus according to Luke 16 was so poor that he had do depend on another person’s left overs to eat. I am sure at least most of us can afford our daily bread and don’t have to beg for food. So most of us were better of than him. In all these Lazarus knew God so he didn’t walk in sin he still loved and fear God in his hard times. That man was spiritually rich. and made it to heaven at last. This tells us that in our hard times we should still be faithful unto God. You may be struggling financially but you don’t need to steal to help yourself or sleep with someone to make money, No! Rather beg someone for help than to sin.
Beloved if we know the eyes around watching us and the spiritual cameras around us we will be very embarrass to use sin as a solution. Choose to beg for food as Lazarus did than to sin for money, be a laborer or house cleaner for someone with little money than to sell your body for money.
How many women have sold themselves for jobs and money?? Only God knows Some single mothers will sleep with anyone for money to care for their children. You don’t need to do that dear. Ask God for support and work with your hands and God will open doors for you. Be faithful in your hard times and protect your birth right in the Lord don’t sell it away so cheap. You are far more worthy than any money someone will offer you to sin. Don’t stoop so low.
When you seek God’s face He normally responds with dreams and visions, when you have encounters with God it helps you to know that God is too real so it helps you to stay away from evil and not live as you like.

The concept of the “fear of God” is a significant theme throughout the Bible, encompassing both reverence for God’s power and awe of His majesty. Here are several key scriptures from both the Old and New Testaments that address this concept:
Old Testament
- Proverbs 1:7 (NIV): The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
- Proverbs 9:10 (NIV): The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
- Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV): Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
- Psalm 111:10 (NIV): The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
- Isaiah 33:6 (NIV): He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.
- Deuteronomy 10:12-13 (NIV): And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
New Testament
- Luke 1:50 (NIV): His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
- Acts 9:31 (NIV): Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.
- 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV): Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”
- Philippians 2:12-13 (NIV): Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
- Hebrews 12:28-29 (NIV): Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.
These verses illustrate that the fear of God is closely linked to wisdom, obedience, and reverence, and it plays a foundational role in the relationship between God and believers. Including Psalm 112 (KJV) that provides promises and warnings for the wicked:
1 Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
